Acre Hill (#7) 2nd attempt

Hello Everyone!

We are resending out this month's newsletter because we had a technical difficulty where some of our clients did not receive the newsletter the first time it went out.

June is the American Humane Association’s Adopt-a-Cat Month!  It is also Pet Appreciation Week from June 7th – 13th and it was International Hug Your Cat Day on June 4th but I got my newsletter out a little late, so Acre Hill’s Hug Your Cat Day will be June 20th.  In other words, this is a great month to give your pets some extra love. J  This month is also an excellent month for anyone whose dog is not currently on a heartworm preventative to be placed on one.  Heartworms are spread through mosquito bites, and anyone who has lived in Illinois for a summer knows that we have a high population of mosquitoes around.

Anyone interested in adopting a cat from the Humane Society this month should check out their list of 10 things to consider before adopting a cat.

  1. If you’re thinking about adopting a cat, consider taking home two.
  2. Find a cat whose personality meshes with yours.
  3. Pick out a veterinarian ahead of time and schedule a visit within the first few days following the adoption.
  4. Make sure everyone in the house is prepared to have a cat before it comes home.
  5. Budget for the short- and long-term costs of a cat.
  6. Stock up on supplies before the cat arrives.
  7. Stock up on supplies before the cat arrives.
  8. Go slowly when introducing your cat to new friends and family.
  9. Be sure to include your new pet in your family’s emergency plan.
  10. If you’re considering giving a cat as a gift, make sure the recipient is an active participant in the adoption process.

You can read more information on each of these suggestions by following this link to their website: http://www.americanhumane.org/animals/programs/special-initiatives/adopt-a-cat-month/

If anyone decides to 1) adopt a cat or 2) do something special for your pet for Pet Appreciation Week, we would love it if you sent us a picture and I can add it to either our website or post it on Facebook.

The Pets of the Month for June are BJ (the laidback pug), Jordan (the feisty Chihuahua), and Penny (Grandma’s Chihuahua).  These three pets are always fun to have come in to the clinic.  When these three come in to the clinic it is very obvious they are all very attached to one another because they stick together through the whole appointment.
